Behind the lens

For Resort '23

Solana meaning “sunshine”, the latest collection for MOS, shot against the rolling sand dunes of Sydney.

A collection inspired by the sun-drenched hues of Morocco. The blush-coloured markets and golden desert sands set the tone for the collection and our vision was brought to life by photographer Sophie Brennan and muse Anissa Bakhti.

Join us as we take you behind the lens of our Resort ’23 photoshoot with our photographer Sophie to talk about what life is like as a fashion photographer.

Hi Sophie, can you please introduce yourself and what you do?

Hello! My name is Sophie, and I am a fashion photographer & videographer based in Sydney.

.

HOW DID YOUR CAREER IN PHOTOGRAPHY BEGIN?

I have always had a love for photography and all things fashion so it was always a given that I would work in the industry.

Although I didn't get straight into it post school, I did make sure I had fun behind the camera whenever I had a spare moment.

My first photography job was shooting footwear and accessories for Glue Store. 6 years later it's with great pleasure that I can now say I'm an established fashion photographer & videographer.

What does a typical day look like for you?

If I’m not on set, most mornings start with emails and ideation. I’m usually very productive in the mornings so I try and smash out as many admin tasks as possible. Then throughout the day I will move onto more practical tasks like editing.

You recently shot ouR Solana, Resort campaign. What was your favourite creative aspect of the shoot?

I loved working on set with the MOS team. Creating and capturing Solana as a campaign was so much fun!

The model, Anissa was an absolute pro who created beautiful shapes. I loved the set design too as it really made the campaign feel like it was shot in a faraway desert.

Can you share your FAVOURITE looks from the collection?

I absolutely loved the looks we shot of the Carina Maxi Dress in front of the fabric backdrop. I also love the drama of her pose in the shots we did laying on the rug. These two are my top picks!

Any advice you can share for someone wanting to pursue a career in fashion photography?

Persistence is key! The letdown of jobs not coming into fruition in the beginning of your career can be tough but it’s important to keep on going!

Never back down.
