Depending on the fibre being produced, we look for relevant certifications from suppliers to ensure we are sourcing from companies that meet our sustainability goals. At MOS, we look for the general certifications listed below:

CRADLE TO CRADLE (C2C)

A global certification that ensures products are made in a safe, circular and responsible manner. Companies are assigned a level of Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum in five categories: Material Health, Product Circularity, Clean Air & Climate Protection, Water & Soil Stewardship and Social Fairness, with the lowest level representing the product’s overall rank.

GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD (GOTS)

GOTS is a textile processing standard including an ecological and social criteria for the production of organic fibres. A product carrying the GOTS label ensures the product was made with a minimum of 70% organic fibres.

BETTER COTTON INITIATIVE (BCI COTTON)

Better Cotton is the world’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton. It aims to protect cotton communities by encouraging safe working conditions for cotton farmers and environmentally friendly practices throughout the harvesting, storing and transporting phases.

GLOBAL RECYCLE STANDARD (GRS)

The GRS is an international product standard that sets requirements for recycled content, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions. Brands look to verify the recycled content of their product with the GRS certification.

FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL (FSC)

The FSC promotes the responsible management of the world’s forests. Being FSC- certified means the material of a product has been sourced in a way that preserves biological diversity, is ethical for workers and is identified and separated from non- certified materials.

CHEMSEC

ChemSec is a non-profit organisation that helps businesses substitute the use of toxic chemicals for safer alternatives. Companies use ChemSec’s web-based tools to manage and track their toxic footprint with the guidance of ChemSec’s research and advice.

ZDHC FOUNDATION

The ZDHC foundation oversees the implementation of the Roadmap to Zero Programme, a programme leading brand’s to achieve zero discharge of hazardous chemicals, within the fashion industry. By reviewing how companies are performing under the ZDHC guidelines, brands are issued conformance levels on their progress.

BLUESIGN

Bluesign is a system that provides safe and sustainable environments for people to work and live in. Being Bluesign-approved means the product has been assessed and approved based on the sustainability requirements outlined in the Bluesign Criteria.
